Just recently we have been declared to be drought free for the first time in years. As a result I felt inspired to write the following poem in thanks to God.
Last week no colour here to view Save rustic soil beneath the blue But then He sent life-giving rain-- The earth drank deep, the flowers came And painted new the drab terrain. A coloured carpet springs from dust So none can see the red plains rust; Ten years of sun-baked dearth and drought-- Who would believe as deserts sprout The rain could bring such beauty out? The sky now filled with chirping tunes; The word is out--"the desert blooms"-- All nature sings in festal glee As insect, bird and honey bee Join in the glad festivity. Depicting how God's Spirit can Infuse new life in barren man; On lifeless souls, drought-ridden, dry When they to Christ as Saviour fly He'll pour His Spirit from on high. Then from your soul new life will spring Your world will change, your heart will sing; Forever gone the spirit's drought-- Glad heart within bears fruit without-- Life-giving waters bursting out.
