I was recently saddened to hear that someone whose song once gladdened my heart by its simple glorification of Christ has turned to mostly singing songs that are worldly and make no mention of God. I wrote the following poem(song) to express my feelings.
Sing for Him 'For God, not for riches or fame' Said the girl when she made her debut, 'I'll sing all my songs to Your Name, May my music bring glory to You.' Her song won its way to our hearts And this 'nobody' soon was a star, A hit on the musical charts Idolised by her fans near and far. Forgotten the promise once made Now the blaze of the spotlight's supreme, God is hidden somewhere in the shade Unnoticed, unwanted, unseen. You'd never have made it this far And the lights would have dimmed long ago, Though you're seen by the world as a star It's God's gifting to you and you know! Return to the One you once knew, He Who filled up your soul with sweet song In the days before your debut Before riches and fame came along. He faithfully waits in the wings While you prance on the catwalk of fame 'Till the day you once more will sing The songs that bring praise to His name. Vincent Lyons.
