In the rumbling peals of thunder
In the flashing forks of light As the clouds are burst asunder By the tempest's fearsome might Blinding flashes without number Hurled from Heaven's lofty height-- Bow my head in awe and wonder As the lightning bolts ignite. Though I marvel, slightly frighted At the storm-cloud's flash and flare Fire and brimstone can be sighted In the Heaven's angry glare And our frailty's highlighted Our fragility laid bare And the might of God is cited To each eye that is aware. In this awesome demonstration Nature's energy untamed Presents Heaven's illustration Of God's judgement yet restrained As the sky gives acclamation 'Fore a world that stands ashamed-- To my heart a revelation In the stormy skies proclaimed. God's the blessed illustrator On the blackboard of the night; He's the Author, instigator Of this spectacle of might; It shouts loudly of Creator In each blast and bolt of light-- Yes the sky's God's amphitheatre Where's displayed His pow'r tonight.
